MiniBots is built around real competition. A new game is released each year in the first week of September, giving builders a fresh engineering challenge to solve. Competition events are then held throughout the season, leading up to the season final in June.
Builders design, test, and refine their robots throughout the year, then put those systems to the test at MiniBot competition events hosted by Lord of Robots. What works, what fails, and what happens during matches becomes the input for the next design iteration.

Engineering Development
MiniBots, or MRx, is a modular robotics program built around competitive engineering, rapid prototyping, and open-ended system development. It gives builders a functional starting platform while leaving the mechanical, electrical, and software architecture open for modification, experimentation, and improvement.
Through the MiniBots program, builders can:
- Design custom robot structures and mechanisms using CAD tools such as Onshape
- Manufacture functional components through 3D printing and other fabrication methods
- Integrate motors, servos, sensors, batteries, and embedded control hardware
- Develop, test, and debug Arduino-compatible firmware
- Build driver-controlled, autonomous, or hybrid control systems
- Modify drivetrains, mechanisms, electronics, and software independently
- Analyze match performance and refine strategy using real competition data
- Apply rapid prototyping, troubleshooting, and iterative design methods
- Develop complete mechanical, electrical, and software system architectures
MiniBots is designed to grow with the builder. A robot can begin with proven LoR hardware and sample code, then evolve through redesigned drivetrains, custom mechanisms, advanced control systems, sensor integration, and data-driven strategy.
The program is rooted in hands-on competition, but its value extends beyond the field. Builders gain practical experience in robotics, embedded systems, mechatronics, electronics integration, product development, testing, and design for reliability.
