About Lord of Robots - LoR

Lord of Robots is a Canadian robotics and embedded-systems company focused on making real engineering more accessible.

We develop robotics platforms, electronic hardware, components, software resources, competitions, and hands-on programs that allow builders to create functional systems without requiring a large laboratory, specialized facility, or extensive institutional support.

Our products are designed to be used, modified, programmed, and extended. Builders can start with a working platform, explore how each subsystem operates, and progressively develop custom mechanisms, electronics, firmware, controls, and complete robotic systems.

Whether someone is assembling their first robot or developing a more advanced embedded project, our goal is to provide a practical path from concept to working hardware.

Our Story

Lord of Robots was founded by engineers with decades of combined experience in embedded systems, electromechanical design, automation, manufacturing, and technical education.

Alongside our industry work, we have spent more than a decade mentoring robotics teams and supporting hands-on engineering programs. Through that experience, we saw how effectively robotics could connect mechanical design, electronics, programming, fabrication, control systems, and problem-solving into one practical discipline.

We also saw a major accessibility gap.

Many advanced robotics programs require significant funding, dedicated facilities, specialized equipment, and experienced technical mentors. Smaller educational kits were more accessible, but often provided limited room for modification, experimentation, or progression into more capable systems.

We wanted to create something between those two extremes: compact and approachable robotics platforms that could still support meaningful engineering work.

The Beginning of MiniBots

While supporting builders with independent robotics and embedded projects, we noticed the same motors, controllers, batteries, servos, sensors, and structural components being used repeatedly.

In 2023, we combined those ideas into the first MiniBot platform and introduced it to our robotics community as a side project. The response was immediate. Builders began driving, competing, modifying mechanisms, rewriting code, testing ideas, and developing increasingly capable robots.

That initial experiment became the foundation of the MiniBots program.

MiniBots provide an accessible starting point for robotics development while remaining open enough for extensive customization. Builders can begin with a functional drivetrain and control system, then modify the mechanical design, add actuators and sensors, develop custom firmware, or create an entirely new robot around the same platform.

Engineering Through Competition

Competition gives builders a clear reason to improve their systems.

MiniBots events place robots in structured games where reliability, control, mechanical design, strategy, and rapid iteration directly affect performance. Each competition season introduces new challenges that encourage builders to develop different mechanisms, software approaches, and design strategies.

The platform has been refined through repeated competition, field testing, builder feedback, and real-world use. This process helps us identify failure points, improve documentation, strengthen hardware, and ensure that our products remain practical outside controlled demonstrations.

Competition is not the end goal. It is a development environment where ideas can be tested under real constraints.

More Than MiniBots

MiniBots are one part of a broader robotics and embedded-development ecosystem.

Lord of Robots develops control hardware, electronic modules, mechanical components, firmware, documentation, and development resources for robotics and embedded applications. Our systems are intended to support projects ranging from compact mobile robots and custom mechanisms to sensor integration, automation, control development, and experimental embedded systems.

Our LoR Core platform reflects this approach by combining practical power distribution, programmable control, actuator connectivity, and expandable interfaces into hardware that can serve as both a robot controller and a general embedded-development platform.

The objective is not to lock builders into a single robot or prescribed project. It is to provide reliable building blocks that reduce repetitive setup work while leaving the system open for experimentation and custom development.

Team LoR

In 2024, we launched Team LoR, our competitive combat robotics team.

Combat robotics provides another demanding environment for mechanical design, electronics integration, fabrication, controls, reliability, repairability, and rapid iteration. Systems must operate under significant physical loads and remain serviceable between matches.

The lessons learned through competition directly support how we design, test, and improve our products. It also gives builders another way to apply their skills, test unconventional ideas, and experience the complete engineering cycle from initial concept through competition and redesign.

Our Mission

Our mission is to give builders practical access to the tools, hardware, knowledge, and community needed to develop real robotic and embedded systems.

We believe engineering is learned most effectively by building something that must work.

That means designing, programming, testing, failing, repairing, improving, and trying again. Our role is to make that process more accessible without removing the technical depth that makes it valuable.
